Why does a massage therapist need to be accredited

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 by admin

The principle reason for the need of accreditation amongst massage therapists is to safe guard the public. Think about it, you cannot have a situation where anyone with no training can work as a massage therapist and potentially hurt someone through the use of the wrong techniques. Also you will need to usually work for someone, and you must have professional liability insurance. These organizations need to make sure you have the proper qualifications and so instead of testing all applicants they simply decide what is the minimum level of training they want their people to have and then rely on the massage courses accreditation to be the proof.

World record massages!

During your time studying your various therapeutic massage courses, it is likely you learned that in the main you will be in a room with your client so they have privacy and are more likely to feel relaxed. So bearing that in mind, what a unique odd experience 154 massage therapists had in London in 2007. As a publicity stunt put on by a large corporate group, 154 people received a massage simultaneously while sitting on yellow inflatable chairs. All the massage therapists had the needed massage therapy certification. The volunteers received a shoulder massage but I hope they were warm enough because it all took place on the 21st October that year but there again there would have been no guarantee of nice weather in the height of the summer knowing the British weather!
